KUWAIT: The new Chairman of Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) Board of Directors Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad insisted that the new board has a working plan and several goals aiming at taking Kuwait sport further ahead.
He said the plan includes approaching the Ministry of Education and other ministries to seek cooperation. He said the board of directors, which received a unanimous vote from the sixteen sports federations will strengthen its relations with international bodies, as well as evaluating administrative work of Kuwait Olympic Committee, as well as providing all means to prepare and qualify athletes who can compete in international arenas and represent Kuwait including in the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Sheikh Fahad thanked the government and sports associations for their efforts that ended the suspension of Kuwait sport at the international level, to start a new era that will turn the page on all previous differences and restore confidence in Kuwait sport.
The elections of Kuwait Olympic Committee board was attended by representative of International Olympic Committee Jerome Bufet in addition to the six member committee that were entrusted to solve the crises, they are Saqer Al-Mulla, Dr Saleh, Al-Qahtani, Hussein Al-Musallam, and representative of the Olympic council of Asia Taha Al-Kushari.
The election process was supervised by three members made of Chairman of Handball Federation Nasser Bu Marzouq, Deputy Chairman of Football Federation Ahmad Al-Enezi and Secretary of Gymnastics Federation Abdellatif Murad.
Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah proposed the general assembly appointment of two members on the board with the right to vote, they are the head of the woman committee Fatima Hayat, and head of athletes committee Fai Al-Sultan. He also proposed the appointment of Bader Al-Mutawa and Ghazi Al-Jeraiwi as non-voting members, and the proposals were also approved unanimously.
The woman’s committee included two members Sheikha Bibi Al-Salem and Najlaa Al-Jeraiwi.
The International Olympic Committee, which lifted the suspension partially as a goodwill gesture on August 16, 2018, approved all steps, decisions and amendments approved by the extraordinary general assembly on the new statute of the Olympic Committee. – Photos by Yasser Al Zayyat
