KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health has stopped kidney dialysis for expatriates, informed sources said. A large number of patients who undergo kidney dialysis at Mubarak Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah kidney dialysis centers were surprised that kidney dialysis has been made exclusive only for Kuwaitis, but the rule was not activated for many years, the sources said. The law will be activated now, they added.

Separately, other sources revealed that the new hepatitis-C drugs have been selected, and the ministry is waiting for the approval of supervisory authorities.

They said that as soon as approvals are received, the drugs will be made available, as the recovery rate after using them reached up to 95 percent in a short period of time.

The sources said the ministry took serious measures to provide these medicines as a first step to eradicate this illness, as its eradication means huge savings in expenses the state pays each year in the form of medicines, care and development of the disease to cirrhosis, cancer and transplants, which consumes money that can be used for other diseases. — Al-Anbaa, Al-Rai
