KUWAIT: The cabinet held its weekly meeting at Seif Palace yesterday under the chairmanship of Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. The meeting began by commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al- Mubarak Al-Sabah said after the meeting.

He pointed out that hundreds of victims were killed or captured during this aggression. He added that Kuwait’s liberation was a joint effort by former Kuwaiti leadership of their Highnesses late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and late Crown Prince Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah who brought nations together to help bring back Kuwait’s freedom. He also expressed appreciation to the support given by all Arab and friendly nations, especially that of Saudi Kingdom, to help in restoring Kuwait’s justice and rightfulness. The minister stressed that this sad juncture in the history of Kuwait should be learned from.

It should induce a sense of unity and patriotism for generations to come. Furthermore, he wished stability and security under the wise leadership of Their Highnesses the Amir and the Crown Prince. The meeting also tackled a visit to Jordan that discussed bilateral ties, the promotion of security cooperation and the enhancement of trade and commercial ties. It also lauded police efforts that brought down a terrorist cell of five persons who received training in Iraq and Syria.

Sports Meanwhile, Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al- Humoud Al-Sabah affirmed that all sporting events in Kuwait bound to international regulations, pointing out that his Ministry is always in full support to the sport movement in the country. The ministers reviewed a study by the Economic Affairs Committee on increasing fees paid for the Public Authority for Industry’s land allocations. In regards to indebtedness, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh presented to the assembly an annual report by the government on how to deal with budget violators legally and explained procedures applied to collect these debts.

Palestine On the political front, the meeting discussed reports on the latest development on the Arab and International arenas and condemned the Palestinian toddler’s death after his house was set on fire when Israeli extremist torched his entire village. The cabinet voiced strong condemnation to this horrific act and called on international community to stop the recurring violation against the Palestinians. Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak said the meeting discussed two letters addressed to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah: one from the Grand Mufti of Russia Sheikh Rawi Ainuddin inviting His Highness the Amir to the opening of a mosque in Moscow in September 23rd; the other was from Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi in which he expressed gratitude to humanitarian help offered by Kuwait to the Iraqi displaced inside his country. —KUNA
