Municipality denies animal cruelty claims

KUWAIT: Kuwait Municipality Public Relations denied claims by Australia’s Animal Protection Society (AAPS) that the slaughter method in local slaughter houses in Kuwait is inhumane and uses “cruel treatment.” It asserted that slaughtering is done according to the rules, in addition to compliance with health and nutrition care rules for the animals before the slaughtering process.

Hawally governorate slaughter house official, Jawad Qambar, likewise refuted the AAPS claims adding that the slaughtering process is supervised by specialized employees to make sure rules are followed, adding that they comply with Islamic sharia. Qambar added there are special pens for sheep on sale with suitable floors and animal feed, besides being placed in shade to reduce temperature.
