KD 50,000 compensation ordered for oppositionist

KUWAIT: A court yesterday ordered Al-Shahed newspaper to compensate former MP Musallam Al-Barrak KD 50,000 because of an article it published against him. Barrak, a leading political opposition figure, has been jailed since last June to serve a two-year sentence for offending His Highness the Amir.

Embezzlement
Separately, a court yesterday acquitted Firdous Cooperative Society’s chairman of board and treasurer of embezzlement charges, said lawyer Dowaim Al-Mowaizri, noting the court also ordered annulling a previous ruling sentencing them to prison.

Humidity
Meteorologist Essa Ramadan expected humidity to increase to high levels in coastal areas and reach inland before it subsides again starting Saturday.
