Interior, UNHCR discuss deportees’ conditions

KUWAIT: Interior Ministry Assistant Undersecretary for Correctional Facilities and Sentences Implementation Affairs Major General Khalid Abdallah Al-Daeen met representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Saher Mohialdeen yesterday.

The two sides discussed the conditions of expatriates held pending deportation, and whose countries are experiencing crises and unstable security conditions, the Interior Ministry said in a statement. The meeting came after the commission was given an opportunity to interview the deportees at the deportation department.

Mohialdeen appreciated Kuwait’s assistance for the commission’s humanitarian mission, and mentioned the upcoming visit of the head of the Middle East and Northern Africa Region office to thank the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Sabah for the efforts exerted in the field of joint cooperation between the two sides
