Amir’s warning

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah’s warning of the growing rate and severity of terrorism and his demands to the international community to join hands in fighting it and drying up its resources was very decisive. In his speech on the last ten days of Ramadan, the Amir urged the entire international community to dedicate all efforts to fight terrorism and dry up its resources so that all peoples and nations could live safely. “The world also has to stop the spread of dreadful sectarian and doctrinal tensions because it threatens all nations and undermines their solidarity,” he said in very wise words that actually diagnose the problem and call for dealing with the real reasons behind allowing terrorists to mislead the youth by religious and doctrinal slogans.

HH the Amir’s clear reference to the wars, conflicts and lack of security so many Arab countries have been suffering from in the form of heartbreaking human tragedies leading to hunger and displacement of many of these countries’ subjects within their countries and abroad was a clear reference and call to look into the mirror and view things as they really are, especially in some Arab countries that have been allowing the spread of terrorist ideas and exporting them. Murdering 26 innocent people in a suicide bombing was an irresponsible act that was accompanied by chants of “Allah Akbar” that ought to be shouted against the faces of enemies of Islam and peace, and not against innocent worshippers gathered to perform Friday prayers while they were prostrating during the holy month of Ramadan.

Such moves to tear Sunnis and Shiites apart in many Arab and Gulf countries are unsuccessful attempts to reproduce the same divisions. With their blood, those martyrs created another national epic emphasizing that there is no place for terrorism, religious or doctrinal intolerance in Kuwait. This is how we have lived for centuries and how we will live for further ones.
