Renounce Extremism

There is no doubt now about who committed the dreadful crime that claimed the lives of many innocent people at Al-Sadiq Mosque last Friday.

May Allah Almighty have mercy on the souls of the fallen and bestow the injured immediate recovery, though we are all doomed to be deeply ‘injured’ if this criminal incident developed any further into a state of conflict that devastates everything and would relentlessly blow the society from within.

Islamic State (IS) might have officially claimed responsibility for this crime, which might be part of a more complicated plan for the entire region, since another terrorist attack took place in a gas factory in Lyon, France on the same day and a third one took place in a Tunisian hotel.

Yet, what is more important is what is going to happen locally, the people’s awareness of the challenge and their ability to prevent the turmoils that terrorists are trying to create in order to dismantle the Kuwaiti society from within. What is even worse than this terrible crime at Al- Sadiq mosque is to accept, evade, justify and not clearly condemn it.

This tiny society will only be able to get out of this turmoil with awareness of the attempts made to achieve it and expelling them.

On the other hand, tolerating extremism and the presence of some social sects that accept and promote it only indicates that this society will implode. Now it is high time to consolidate, renounce and discard extremism and extremists.

Otherwise, we can only expect the worse to happen. May Allah Almighty protect Kuwait and its people from all evils; have mercy on the souls of martyrs who were only killed because they went for prayers. Kuwait is targeted, gentlemen, so, let us rise up to the challenge.
