Mosque blast victims officially ‘Martyrs of Kuwait’: Cabinet

KUWAIT: Based on His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s directives considering Friday blast as an extraordinary public incident and its victims as martyrs, the cabinet has entrusted the Martyr’s Office at the Amiri Diwan to take the necessary measures to honor families of the deceased. 27 people, including the bomber, were killed and 227 others wounded in the terrorist attack that hit Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait City during Friday noon prayer.

Victims will now be comprised on the list of ‘Kuwaiti Martyrs.’ During its weekly meeting at Seif Palace, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al- Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the cabinet boasted the synergy and national unity manifested by Kuwaitis and expats in the aftermath of the terrorist attack, said Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah.

The plight has demonstrated solidness and capability of the Kuwaiti society to counter such conspiracies seeking to foment discords and incite division and sectarianism amongst its members, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah added. The cabinet urged Kuwaitis to join forces against whosoever might target their unity or tamper with the country’s security and stability.

Hard efforts
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah briefed the meeting on the hard efforts by the security agencies which led to uncovering perpetrators of the heinous attack. The ministry had managed to reveal the identity of the suicide attacker and the man who drove him to the blast site.

Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled concluded by warning “to cut hands that attempt to tamper with security of the nation.” He stressed that Kuwait will always remain “an oasis of security and safety for whosoever lives on this blessed land.” Meanwhile, the cabinet commended the persistent efforts by the security bodies and members led by Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled for maintaining security and stability in the country.

The ministers also lauded efforts by the Ministry of Health, as well as private hospitals providing due medical for the wounded of the Friday incident. In addition, the meeting paid tribute to the distinguished work by the Ministry of Information that provided around-the-clock live and comprehensive coverage of the incident, conveying a message of assurance to the Kuwaiti society and urging people to stand against attempts of terrorism and sectarianism. The cabinet expressed gratitude to the world countries that condemned the terrorist attack and expressed solidarity with Kuwait, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs said.

Utter rejection
Yesterday’s meeting reaffirmed utter rejection by the Kuwaiti society to the abnormal practices committed by ‘outlaws’ of true Islam and its values. It also emphasized determination to eradicate deviant groups and deter whosoever might target “dear Kuwait’s” security and stability. The cabinet urged closer cooperation with the security agencies to counter such cowardly attempts. —KUNA
