Minister dissolves two co-ops’ boards

KUWAIT: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al- Subaih issued decisions to dissolve Ardhiya and Rehab co-ops societies’ boards of directors. She also appointed Ali Hassan and Essa Al-Omairi as temporary managers at Rehab co-op and Ardhiya co-op respectively. Subaih also said that all members of the dismissed boards would be prosecuted for severe violations which the inspection committees discovered.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Kuwait Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies Saad Al-Shabo criticized the decision, noting that corrective measures should only involve violators and not the whole board. He added that the detected violations had accumulated from previous boards that also ought to be held accountable. Shabo also criticized what he described as ‘an attack on the co-op movement’ and suspected that the move only aims at ‘appointing’ managers.
