KUWAIT: Director of the Interior Ministry’s Residency Affairs Department Major General Talal Maarafi warned both citizens and expatriates against dealing with fake domestic labor offices, noting that many of them had recently been advertising their services in local media outlets and on social media networks, including offering maids’ services for limited working hours.

“This is nothing more than a fraud committed by some people using unlicensed activities,” Maarafi stressed, noting that such advertisers were being tracked down and busted. Concerned authorities have already been contacted to prevent publishing or putting such ads because they contribute to increasing crime rates, he said in a statement made available by the Interior Ministry yesterday.

Meanwhile, Director of the ministry’s Relations and Security Media Department Brigadier Adel Al-Hashash stressed that awareness flashes and campaigns have been made to warn both citizens and expatriates against hiring illegal and absconding domestic helpers, adding that having little information about their activities makes their potential employers vulnerable to crime and theft.
