Gov’t rejects proposed sorcery law

KUWAIT: The government rejected the proposed law to criminalize sorcery practice, which was presented by MPs Dr Ahmad Maie, Mohammad Tanna, Dr Mohammad Al- Huwailah and Humoud Al-Hamdan. The government explained through a statement by the Justice Ministry that the Penal Law 16/1960 already covers such acts. Penal Law 16/1960 is the original penal law that includes the general rules and basic principles of crime and punishment.

Handicap pensioners
President of Kuwait Society on Disabled People’s Issues Suad Al-Fares said that there are violations and fraud with the application of the law, such as the issue of parents receiving the disability pension, while in reality it is the grandmother who takes care for the disabled person covered by the allowance. Fares noted this is why they seek accuracy on who receives the pension to care for a handicapped child, because sometimes it is the grandmother who cares for the handicapped child since the parents are divorced and each is busy with his or her new life. She noted the woman’s suffering in caring for a handicapped due to the many required papers and multi committees from many government bodies that examine the handicap’s case.
