Companies to bid offers to reconstruct damaged mosque

KUWAIT: The Ministry of Public Works invited eight companies to bid financial and technical offers to reconstruct the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque, Ministry Undersecretary Awatif Al-Ghunaim said in a statement. This comes in implementation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah’s instructions, Ghunaim said, adding that a preliminary meeting will be held tomorrow to receive the offers. On June 26, 2015, a terrorist attack on the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque left 26 people dead and 227 people injured.

Co-education MP Humoud Al-Hamdan said that the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Bader Al-Essa’s recent statements to the press revealed that his intentions were against the conservative Kuwaiti society’s values and traditions. Hamdan said that Essa’s statements showed that he was after coeducation and changing Islamic education and Arabic curriculums. “This is a redline because the Holy Quran and hadith call for moderation,” Hamdan said, accusing the committee Minister Essa assigned to change the curriculums of not being specialized nor qualified to do so.

KU spokesperson Kuwait University (KU) announced that the deans committee had agreed to appoint Dr Bader Al-Hajji, media professor at the faculty of arts and the editor- in-chief of KU’s Afaq magazine, as the university’s official spokesperson
