Cassation court rejects Al-Watan newspaper’s appeal

KUWAIT: The Court of Cassation yesterday rejected a request made by Al-Watan Press, Printing and Publishing House to suspend and appeal court’s decision to close down Al-Watan newspaper and its subsidiary magazines. The Cassation Court’s ruling is final.

Travel ban Justice Ministry’s Acting Undersecretary Bader Al-Zamanan said that his ministry was currently coordinating with the Interior Ministry on setting a mechanism by which financial claim-related travel bans could be lifted immediately on border exits without having to go to certain state departments to pay off those claims.

School jammers The Ministry of Education is currently considering providing schools with wireless signal jammers in order to be used during exams to prevent using modern technology in cheating. The step comes as the ministry had detected a growing use of modern technology devices in cheating on different exams.

Blackouts MP Abdullah AL-Tamimi warned Minister of Electricity and Water and Minister of Public Works Ahmad Al-Jassar and his ministry officials of the consequences of the repeated blackouts in different areas, especially those on a rather hot day during Ramadan. “Why has Kuwait experienced such unjustified blackouts? Why did you not fix the power transformers before the problem happened when temperatures were over 55 degrees centigrade?”, he inquired, urging all MEW officials to ‘get out of their offices’ and have the initiative without waiting for a problem to happen before acting.

Financial disclosure Deputy Speaker of the parliament Mubarak Al-Khurainej recently filed his financial disclosure statement to the head of the Public Anti-Corruption Authority Chancellor Abdulrahman Al-Namash. Khurainej is the first parliamentarian to file his statement. “I did so in implementation of law number 24/2012 and the authority’s decree number 77/2015”, Khurainej explained, noting that lawmakers should be a role model to be followed by other state officials.
