Bader Al-Kharafi 2nd most powerful Arab young leader – Al-Kharafi ranks first in Kuwait, recognized for his regional and global influence

KUWAIT/DUBAI: Bader Al-Kharafi has been ranked the second most powerful Arab personality across the Arab world under the age of forty years by leading regional business magazine Arabian Business. The rankings, undertaken by Arabian Business for the first time, saw Al- Kharafi placed as the most powerful young leader in Kuwait, surpassing the country’s other successful and influential business leaders, with the magazine highlighting his unique record of achievements in business development, as well as his outstanding contributions in the areas of sustainability in supporting youth and in social and charitable institutions.

In its publication, Arabian Business noted that Al-Kharafi, who is one of the heads of the family conglomerate MA Al-Kharafi & Sons Company that was established in 1956, now runs a company with an estimated worth of more than $8 billion. According to the magazine, the Kharafi Group has over 135 registered companies operating in 28 countries, across sectors including construction, trading and manufacturing, investments and development, and travel and leisure.

The magazine made mention that Al-Kharafi took over as Director of the Kharafi Group’s executive committee in 2012, following the death of his highly esteemed father, Nasser Al-Kharafi. It also noted that he holds several high-profile roles within the family business, including as a board member of Gulf Bank, a board member of Foulath Holding (Bahrain Steel) and Chairman and Managing Director of Gulf Cables & Electrical Industries as well as being elected Vice-Chairman of Zain Group in 2014.

The magazine highlighted that in April 2014, Coutts, the wealth division of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group, announced it had appointed Bader Al-Kharafi to its Middle East Advisory Board. Furthermore, and in line with his strong philanthropic beliefs, Arabian Business revealed that Al-Kharafi is a keen advocate for youth development, being a board member for INJAZ, a non-government organization that teaches students entrepreneurship and financial literacy at a time when Kuwait is working to encourage more nationals into the private sector. Bader Al-Kharafi is currently completing his Executive MBA at the London Business School (LBS), and won the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Business Sector 2013’ at the Arabian Business Awards that year. Arabian Business excludes members of the region’s royal family, or politicians in formulating its rankings.

The publication then considers Arabs from all countries, not just the Arab world, as well as those from all walks of life, and not just business. The magazine began collating names for this year’s list in June last year, adding to the magazine’s extensive Power List database by reaching out to contacts around the world in an effort to find out the planet’s most influential young Arabs.

In the simplest terms, Arabian Business defines power as influence; the more people one is able to influence, the more powerful one is considered to be. Arabian Business concluded by forecasting that Al- Kharafi’s influence is only expected to rise further.
